Upadevadas

  • Ganapathy

Most of the temples in Kerala will have Ganapathys shrine as a quintessential part of
upadevadas ( subordinates of the main installation). Here in Sree Alappan Devar temple ,
Ganapathy finds a place within the Nalambalam ( the main block) itself,at the south
western corner.

  • Sastha

External to the Nalambalam , but just inside the Pradikshinavazhi there is a shrine of Sastha - the
only shrine outside the Nalambalam. It is in front of this shrine that the Sabarimala devotees make
agreements for "kettunira" and "malayadil" during Mandala season.

  • Durga Devi

The Shrine of Durga Devi is in a separate compound adjacent to the main temple. The goddess here
is looked upon as upadevatha (subordinate deity) of the temple. This shrine is said to be older than
the main deity. There is a pradhikshina vazhy around the shrine. Thalapoli and narangavilakku are
the important ceremonies that are performed by ladies.
