MANDALA POOJA
Its during Mandala pooja season ( beginning from day one of the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam)
that the devotees visiting the shrine of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala visit and take part in mandala pooja
conducted at Sree Alappan Devar temple. Hundreds of devotees visit the temple during this 41 day
long period in order to purify themselves from all the impurities of their minds
SARASWATHY POOJA
During the Navaraathri festival that lasts for 9 days , the final 3 days are sacred for goddess
Saraswathy- godess of learning and fine arts. Its during the final day of the Navaraathri festival known as Vidyarambham day that children are introduced into the world of knowledge by teaching them how to
write and recite.
THIRUVONAM
On the penultimate day of Thiruvonam, known as Uthraadam ,thousands of devotees bring bunches of
bananas known as "kazcha kula" to the temple as an offering to Sree Alappan Devar.
ASHTAMI ROHINI
Ashtami Rohini is the birthday of Lord Krishna ( in Chingam ) during which Appam and Palpayasam are considered to be an important offering to the Lord .On this day special feast will be provided for the
devotees at the temple.
VISHU
Vishu which falls on the first day of the malayalam month of Medam ( mid April) is considered as an
auspicious day for all Malayalees as they consider this day to be their New Year. On this day Malayalees
prepare "Kani",an arrangement of flowers( kani konna) , gold coins, vegetables,cloths ,rice, etc a day
before Vishu anticipating to open their eyes on that day in front of the "kani" placed in front of a picture
of the Lord Krishna and lighted lamps. Thousands gather at the Sree Alappan Devar temple courtyard on
the morning of Vishu ,praying for a healthy and prosperous year. The doors of Sree Alappan Devar's
deity will be opened at 2:30 AM for darshan.
